Vintage Kuna Mola Panama Framed Fabric Art "Sassy Cats"
Vintage kuna mola framed fabric art from Panama depicting cats. Mola measures 15" x 13" and framed measures 19" x 16 1/2." This mola has been in careful storage for over 20 years and recently framed. Beautiful sassy cats design. Great gift idea for the collector. Molas are handmade fabric art using a reverse applique technique. Several layers (usually two to seven) of different-color cloth (usually cotton) are sewn together; the design is then formed by cutting away parts of each layer. Often, the hand stitches are nearly invisible. This is achieved by using a thread the same color as the layer being sewn, sewing blind stitches, and sewing tiny stitches. The finest molas have extremely fine stitching, made using tiny needles. Molas have originated from Panama or in Columbia. Please contact me if you have any questions.
