Vintage Spitfire Cross Stitch: Royal Air Force Embroidery
A very nice vintage mid-century needlepoint embroidery of a Spitfire plane, probably c.1970s in date and made from a kit. Whoever hand stitched it was very neat and precise, it's very nicely done in tiny cross-stitch, outlined in black. The fabric is a thick, light grey linen or loose-weave tapestry fabric, and there are a few slight marks- mostly around the very edge where the fabric is wrapped around the card- probably from staples in the frame (the frame was very damaged). One very slight yellow mark next to the propellor, just above the date '1954'. Otherwise beautifully hand stitched and in lovely condition, simply wrapped around card so ready for re-framing. Current measurements are 25.5cm by 20.5cm but you could re-mount it as there is a little more border. Please see all photos.
